Blaise Crettol

After having obtained his MSc in Micro-engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Blaise co-founded a start-up company for embedded IT solutions. At the same time, he obtained an Executive Master’s degree in Management of Technology from the EPFL, the UNIL and the University of Texas at Austin.

Since 2005, Blaise has been working as a professor in entrepreneurship, innovation and business models at the University of Applied Sciences, Western Switzerland. His main activity is to manage the program in entrepreneurship for last-year students, www.businessexprience.ch, which exists for more than 10 years and has delivered more than 50 school ventures and 300 students-entrepreneurs.

Carlos DaSilva

Carlos DaSilva’s experience in tech-entrepreneurship and the start-up ecosystem is widespread. He is the Director of the Founder Institute Portugal. The Founder Institute is the world’s largest entrepreneur training and start-up launch program, with over 1200 companies founded across 6 continents (www.fi.co). Carlos is an Adviser and shareholder of over 10 start-ups.

He is also a Professor at the HEG School of Business Administration in Fribourg (Switzerland) and lectures Venture Financing at the Executive MBA and Master level. Dr. DaSilva held the positions of visiting lecturer & scholar at the Thunderbird School of Global Management (F.T. #1 for International Business in the World) and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA.

He is also the author of “Entrepreneurial Finance: A Global Perspective”, a practical book for entrepreneurs and investors published by the SAGE. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D. in Technology Management, he worked for several years in international business development at an Eastern European start-up venture that was recently acquired by a large multinational.

Marc studied chemistry and pursued a classical research career in academia and industry. In the early 2000’s he was leading the innovation activities of a company active in the photographic business, who was fighting the disruptive changes introduced to this industry by the breakthrough developments of digital cameras and electronic displays. In his function he was responsible for strategy development, external collaborations, new customer contacts and innovation management. In 2009 he joined the newly founded Adolphe Merkle Institute for Nanotechnology in Fribourg, where he helped to build the organization and today is Associate Director & Head of Technology Transfer. He is also very active in the promotion of innovation in different functions in professional and volunteer organizations and believes in the worth of training the next generation of innovators.

Jean-Christophe Hadorn

Jean-Christophe Hadorn

Mr. Hadorn is an engineer and a manager. He developed activities in engineering in different companies and in management consulting in its company Base consultants SA in Geneva.

From 1979 to 1998 he developed solar energy projects and IT consultancy. He led several international groups within IEA Tasks until 2013. He participated during 1999 – 2003 to the Edipresse management as a strategist and IT consultant. He was asked in 2003-2005 by the french governement to set up the new National Institute of Solar Energy (INES) in France, now on track with more than 150 researchers. He has been chairman of the board of a manufacturing company listed on the Nasdaq. Since 2007 Mr. Hadorn is the expert coach of the ISP projects of the EMBA at HEC Uni Lausanne. He reviews 30 strategic plans every year in all domains. Mr. Hadorn is also head of the HVAC Swiss engineers Group Pierre Chuard since 2014. He is participating in several technological start-ups.

Kamran Houshang Pour

Dr. Kamran Houshang Pour is patent expert and IP trainer at Swiss Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) in Bern. After obtaining a PhD in physics at the EPF Lausanne he worked as product manager at Nortel Networks in Zurich, where he conducted yield improvement projects for the existing products, qualified new products and introduced them into the market. He later cofounded a consulting entity providing technical supports specially for young startups by the quality management as well as by the technical questions. After a master in statistics at the Université de Neuchâtel he returned as Post Doc to EPFL (TRANSP-OR) conducting an externally financed project on modeling customer behavior.
Since 2008, he is working at IPI, where as patent expert he conducts different type of patent searches, such as validity or freedom-to-operate searches, and examines patent applications in his field of knowledge. As IP trainer, he gives lectures on divers intellectual property subjects at the universities and in the companies.

Patrick Schüffel is a professor at Fribourg’s School of Management and heads the school’s Institute of Finance. Prior to his academic career Patrick was a member of the senior management of Credit Suisse. He served as a director in the bank’s Private Banking Division where he held various positions throughout his career. Among others he was the responsible global innovation officer of the 1000 employee strong organizational unit “Investment Services & Products”. Patrick entered business life by joining a global consulting firm after having founded his own firm while still being an undergraduate. His research interests focus on the areas of Entrepreneurship in Banking & Finance, Innovation, and International Business. Patrick holds a doctorate degree in Business Administration from Henley Business School at the University of Reading/UK.

Alain-Serge Porret

Alain-Serge Porret

Alain holds a M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. from EPFL. He is currently VP, Integrated and Wireless Systems, at CSEM, Neuchâtel. His unit is specialized in the design of high-performance, complex embedded systems, with a strong emphasis on ultra-low-power and covering applications such as medical & wellness, remote sensing, image capture and processing, and wireless communication systems in general.

Previously, he co-founded several start-ups, including two in California where he lived 13 years. In particular, he was VP of Engineering at Xceive Corp., a company which delivered the first silicon tuner massively adopted by mainstream TV sets manufacturers. He was responsible of teams based in US, Switzerland and Asia, with responsibilities including system architecture, circuit design, signal processing and embedded software, with strong involvements in quality, test and customer support.

Marc Gruber is full professor at the College of Management of Technology at EPFL where he holds the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization (ENTC).

Marc Gruber joined EPFL in the fall of 2005 coming from the Munich School of Management, University of Munich, where he was the vice-director of the Institute of Innovation Research, Technology Management and Entrepreneurship (INNOtec) and manager of the ODEON Center for Entrepreneurship.

Dr. Vincenzo Pallotta, is an experienced professional in ICT and Consumer Electronics. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from EPFL and after more than 25 years of research and development in private and public institutions such as IBM, Apple, EPFL, Stanford University, ICSI, UC Berkeley, he is now Professor of Innovation Management and Product Development at the Swiss Applied Science University of Canton Vaud (HEIG-VD). He is the co-founder of interAnalytics, a startup active in the area of Semantic Technologies for Big Data and Customer Interaction Analytics. He contributes as a Lean Startup coach, mentor and trainer to initiatives such as Startup Weekend, UP-NEXT, SeedStars World, Lean Startup Machine and Stanford’s Technology Entrepreneurship online MOOC. Dr. Andrei Villarroel is professor of innovation management and executive consultant in the high-tech sector.  He has been on the faculty of The Lisbon MBA, Católica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics, and international faculty fellow at MIT Sloan School of Management. His professional experience spans organizations in ICT, biotech, energy, finance, education, and international development. He is appointed professor at the Entrepreneurship Institute, School of Management Fribourg (Switzerland). Andrea is technology transfer manager at EPFL with a focus on technology assessment, patenting, licensing and industrial research contracts in the fields of micro-nano technologies, physics, optics and sensors.

Prior to joining EPFL in 2011, Andrea was R&D Manager at Hach-Lange for design and engineering of water analytical instrumentation. In parallel to this mission, he played also a key role in establishing and driving novel methods and tools for the company new product development and technology assessment processes. Before that, from 2001 to 2006, Andrea was R&D engineer at Alcatel for laser and optical amplifiers and post-doc at IMT-Neuchatel specializing in optical sensors.

Andrea has a scientific background in Physics, with a degree from the University of Milan and a PhD from the laboratory of quantum optoelectronics of EPFL.

Benjamin is an entrepreneurial chartered accountant. He gained a vast experience working for a big 4 company in Switzerland and in Ireland. His fields of expertise are financial planning, tax optimization, accounting and auditing. Benjamin joined the HEG Arc in Neuchâtel in 2005 as a professor of finance. He is still involved in a local consulting and auditing firm. In 2014 Benjamin cofounded a promising IT start-up active in the translation business.

Raffi is a multicultural professional with over 20 years of experience in finance, strategy, financial planning, and project management spanning across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and the Americas. He has held leadership roles in large multinationals as well as small, entrepreneurial enterprises. Industry experiences include ICT, aerospace, services, and education. In addition to his professional qualification, in March 2016 Raffi earned a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from Grenoble Ecole de Management specializing in costs and technology startups. Sébastien Jeanneret holds a master degree in Psychology and a MBA. He worked for several companies in marketing research in Germany and the USA before joining a FMCG multinational in New York where he worked in Planning and Brand Management functions. Beginning of 2006, Sébastien Jeanneret founded Delafée in Switzerland. The company develops and commercializes luxury products adorned with 24 karat gold. Simon is an Accredited Business Coach for startups (EPLF, FIT, Platinn & CTI) and holds a number of non-executive positions.  Simon studied Computer Science and Electronic Engineering in London before starting a career with a multinational firm with which he earned his sales experience as a Sales Manager for Middle East and Africa. After leaving this computer company, he started his career as an entrepreneur. At Medtronic he founded the International pricing practice and won the Marketing Excellence Award for pricing new innovations, and again for price training.

Jan is a frequent presentor at various conferences (Professional Pricing Society, IQPC, eyeforpharma) and has written for the Journal of Professional Pricing and The Pricing Advisor. Jan holds a masters in engineering from MIT and MBA from IMD.

Jean-Philippe has 25 years’ experience in entrepreneurship and general management primarily within the Information and Communication Technology sector. He started his career with McKinsey & Co then moved into strategy and general management with a global leader of telecommunication and IT services. He was instrumental in the set-up of a spin-off that reached several billion Euros in revenues and market valuation, and had responsibility over a €200 million business line with 800 staff. He later co-founded two high-tech start-ups, including one spin-off from EPFL.

Parisian by birth and nomad by adoption, Cécile honed her entrepreneurial skills on the global scene.  Holder of a Master’s degree in marketing, she first joined Cartier in Paris and the US, then transferred to Tokyo where she conducted specific marketing plans for the company.  In 1991, she was in Hong Kong where she worked for the distributor Cosa Liebermann, and was responsible for the operational marketing for Asia, with a special focus on China, of 8 luxury consumer goods brands.  Since acquiring Marvin Watch C°1850 in 2007, Cécile has been leading the worldwide rebirth of the brand with her young and dynamic team. The brand is now represented in over 23 countries, from the US, where it has its own subsidiary, to China, and internationally on the net with Marvin virtual boutique. Her motto has always been threefold:  passion, imagination and the pleasure to build up beautiful story.

Stéphanie holds a PhD in Management Sciences from Grenoble University. She has co-written and published a book on Talent Management & Training and has conducted several researches in the HR and project management fields. In her role as a consultant, she has helped entrepreneurs in the retail sector and in the service industry to set up their business, as well as large companies in the energy trade and in banking and insurance to face HR challenges. Herself an entrepreneur, she has co-founded a Swiss online shop specialized in ski and action sports.

Jean-Pierre Roast

With extensive experience in creating and developing high tech companies, Dr. Rosat has co-founded eight start-ups, made three trade-sales to public companies, and is well versed in fund-raising and setting-up new projects. He gained experienced with FDA and EMEA regulations while developing oncology drugs, and has combined this experience with engineering ventures that focused on automated drug screening equipment, micro-machining technology, diagnostic or medtech. Jean-Pierre holds a PhD in immunology from the University of Lausanne, a master in Management of Technology from the EPFL and has worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School.

Caroline has a solid track record in e-Marketing and e-Commerce, both nationally and internationally. She brings to the course a mastery of integrated marketing strategies, processes and structures. Her executive background in Internet Sales, Marketing & Communications and Customer Service serve as a strong base for her activities on internet guided selling techniques, mastering emailing tools, web analytics, SEO, SEM to boost lead generation, revenue, community size, site utilization and customer retention.

Benedict is the CTI Entrepreneurship Module 3 & 4 Program’s Director for Western Switzerland.

Benedict is a confirmed entrepreneur, a management consultant, in particular for turnaround projects, a coach and a business angel for start-up companies.

Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, Benedict launched his entrepreneurial track record early as a serial entrepreneur.  He has also held a variety of senior positions in large corporations in information technology and manufacturing sectors before returning to the start-up world, as a consultant, coach and investor. Benedict brings senior management, strategy, sales & marketing expertise and a trained eye to today’s entrepreneurial world.

Gisèle is the CTI Entrepreneurship Program’s Deputy Director for Western Switzerland.

Gisèle brings to the course an extensive experience in business development, corporate training, finance and banking.  After working in corporate banking in Tokyo and Hong Kong for large American and French banks, she obtained her MBA from INSEAD before switching careers to focus on helping SMEs and start-ups develop their international business. She has a strong and varied background in building partner relationships and international client contacts in diverse work cultures (the United Arab Emirates, USA, Asia and Europe).

Marc is a serial entrepreneur who founded and managed 4 companies. He currently teaches emarketing at a business school in France and coaches several internet startups.  Marc now specializes in Social Media, Buzz Marketing and eCommerce.  He currently runs a social media agency based in Paris and Geneva. Marc holds an engineering degree.

Beat is an entrepreneur and management consultant with a passion for marketing, sales and customer-focused innovation. He advises international companies in various industries and has been coaching start-up companies for the past 15 years. He started his career in Fast Moving Consumer Goods in New York, Geneva & London, helping to launch various new product innovations. Later, he worked for a management consulting firm before setting up his own consulting practice. His domains of expertise range from discovering customer insights, developing growth strategies, to facilitating sales acceleration programs. Beat holds a Master in Economics from HSG St. Gallen.

Dutch born, US-educated and based in Switzerland today, Ari has more than a decade of executive experience in venture propelled companies. He has held leadership positions at LOVEFiLM, XLBet, Syntonetic and GlibHippo and Mogul Associates. Ari is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University. As co-founder and Managing Director of LOVEFiLM, Ari lead the company from launch in 2003 to a €50M euros turnover business and established the company’s Danish, Swedish and German offices. LOVEFiLM was acquired by Amazon in 2011. He is passionate about building great companies and disruptive business models. Today, Ari is COO at Qbuy, a mobile payment and m-commerce platform. He’s is also a regular speaker, mentor and panelist at media & venture-related conferences.

Jean-Marc Wismer is a serial entrepreneur in the fields of IT and medical devices and a former executive with a large multinational organization. He has a history of building companies from early stage to international growth, with strong experience in carving out strategies for complex businesses, in product development, in private equity financing, in regulatory affairs, in operations and growth management, and in marketing and sales. He holds a MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and an MBA from the IMD. Jean-Marc is also a business consultant, teaches and lectures entrepreneurship with various organizations.

Jean spent over 20 years in technology oriented companies. His domains of expertise range from international sales to management of large telecom projects. While an executive in large multinational companies, he experienced many of the domestic and international development stages of a corporation. Jean is also an entrepreneur and started several ventures which have been successfully sold.
Jean is currently a partner and board member of several small and medium-sized companies and start-ups. He also works as a consultant, advising entrepreneurs and SMEs.

Yves is a cross functional leader with a strong background in business strategy in the information (news, data, graphs, content curation, analytics), energy and security sectors. He has worked in sales and customer service for the world leading information provider. Often called in acquisition integration phases, he brings his hands-on expertise in sales, strategy, customer centric organisation and international business development to help companies grow and expand. As an entrepreneur who likes to share with others, Yves manages the ESCP Europe alumni network in Switzerland, and coordinates the activities of various communities and think tanks. Interested in innovation, design, education and new digital technologies, he has always worked in multicultural environments.

Yves speaks French, English, German and Italian.

John is a Canadian who now lives in Geneva, Switzerland. With degrees in International Relations and Law, he has extensive public speaking and presentation experience in a variety of business and legal fora. John is a guest lecturer on public speaking and presentation skills for Executive MBA Programmes at universities in Switzerland and France. He is regularly invited to speak at corporate and other events around Europe, and contributes to the radio programme “The Connectors” on World Radio Switzerland.

John is the co-creator of Rhetoric – The Public Speaking Game™. He writes a popular blog about public speaking – mannerofspeaking.org – which is followed by readers around the world.

John has been a member of Toastmasters International since 2007. Eight times he has entered Toastmasters speech contests and eight times he has reached the European Finals, winning five times and placing second twice.
